Frequently Asked Questions

Learning isn’t one-size-fits-all, and sometimes we don’t even know what questions to ask right away. This page covers some of the questions I get most often. If you don’t see yours here, feel free to reach out by email—I’m always happy to help and work with you to find the right fit for you or your learner!

My child hates writing. Can you help them love it?

Well, honestly, no. Your child might never love writing, and that's ok. But a lot of students hate writing because it's overwhelming and they just don't understand what's being asked of them. I can definitely help with that. Sometimes students hate writing because they don't see any reason to be good at it. I can help with that too. The bottom line is that it's ok if your child never loves writing, but it is an incredibly useful skill. Being able to communicate effectively through writing will take them far in life, regardless of what their future holds. It's a skill worth learning, even if it's not something your child ever enjoys.

How do I know what class is the best fit?

The course descriptions include a lot of information, but if you're unsure I'm happy to help! Feel free to send me a message with any information you can about your child's strengths and weaknesses, experiences, and if possible (and relevant) a writing sample. The more information you can include, the better able I will be to help you find the right fit for your or your student. I'm always happy to help families find the best option!

I'm in college. Do you have anything that can help me?

Yes! I have a few options that could be a good fit for college students. My self-paced essay classes can be a great overview of how to write a research essay. All the concepts are easily applicable to a variety of writing topics and lengths, from basic five paragraph essays to multipage papers. Because those classes include personalized feedback, you'll have access to direct feedback on your work before you turn it in for that grade. If you're working on a piece of writing and just want some feedback on it before submitting it for a grade, I offer that as well. You can find both of those options on the self-paced courses. And of course, just send me a message with any questions.

We use another writing curriculum but are looking for someone to provide feedback or grades. Do you do that?

YES! I offer feedback on all types of writing, for all ages. Check out the self-paced courses page for more information, but basically you send me the writing, the assignment, and the grading rubric (if applicable) and I'll send written and video feedback outlining areas of strength as well as opportunities for improvement.

My child really needs some 1:1 tutoring. Is that something you do?

Yes! I love working with students individually, and specialize in middle school and above. All tutoring is tailored to individual student's needs. Sometimes I work with students for one or two meetings on a specific assignment, and sometimes I work with students for years on writing in general. A self-scheduling option is coming to this site soon, but for right now, send me an email at progresseducationhub@gmail.com to get more information or to set something up.

What if I want to enroll siblings in the same class?

As a mom of four, I love having siblings in the same class! What this looks like really depends on the type of class. For a self-paced class, multiple kids in the same family can watch the same videos, but feedback is only included for one student. However, I'm happy to give a sibling discount for that situation-- just send me an email. For live classes that are currently held on Outschool, Outschool requires each learner to be enrolled separately. If you're looking for tutoring, there is a set price for the time. If you'd like two (or three) students tutored at the same price, the total cost is the same as for one person, but it will be split up. For questions, please send me an email at progresseducationhub@gmail.com.

We use an ESA, state scholarships, or state funds to pay for homeschool classes. Are your classes covered?

If you have an ESA to help with educational expenses, my classes and services may be reimbursable for you. In many states, my Bachelor's Degree in English means that you are able to use those funds here. If you need information from me for this, please send me an email. I'm happy to help! For classes on Outschool, the following programs automatically cover class expenses: Arizona ESA, CHOOSE Act, Arkansas EFA, FL FES-UA/EU, Florida Scholarship (PEP), Idaho EPP, New Hampshire EFA, North Carolina ESA+, OH ACE, South Carolina ESTF, Utah FA, VA LAG, Louisiana GATOR, Wyoming ESA, West Virginia Hope, OpenEd.
