Honest Reviews from Parents and Students

Ms. Martha is an amazing and very dedicated teacher. My son learned quite a few techniques by attending her class during his summer break and his writing style and skills progressed. I highly recommend this class as the teacher's feedback to the submitted assignments helps a lot.

Hello Mrs. Martha, Thank you for class today. I just wanted to thank you for teaching me new things this year. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to learn more things from you and things that might come in use when I get older. I appreciate you really much, I love the way you teach it is very easy to understand to know what were doing to how were doing the project or homework. you never seem to make me confused, Your words are very direct and understandable. I am lucky to have you as my teacher.

This class was such a great growth opportunity for my son. He prefers science and math, so literary analysis and writing can feel like a chore to him, but he was excited to join class every week! Ms. Martha gives interesting assignments and always offers such helpful, detailed feedback. We are so thankful to have found this class!

My son really loved this class and this teacher. He took the entire series of three for World Literature. As a parent, I appreciated that every book "final project" was different and appealed to different learning styles.

Ms. Martha has been fantastic for my two teenagers. With Ms. Martha's guidance, their ninth and tenth grade writing skills exceed most adults I know.  I highly recommend Ms. Martha and we look forward to the next school year with her.

My 15yo son just wrapped up this class and he and I both felt it was very helpful. I feel he is a good writer, but writing is challenging for him (perfectionist tendencies and all that). He had already taken an essay writing class earlier in the year so I really liked that this one focused on improving basic paragraphs. I mean, what is an essay but stacked paragraphs?! Each week introduces two strategies to jazz up a specific type of writing (informative, narrative…) and the assignments were very manageable for my son. This classes' bubble map organization technique came in handy. I think he’ll be able to use it for all kinds of classes going forward. The teacher’s feedback to him after each assignment was quick, encouraging and filled with great suggestions. Lastly, I truly appreciate this being offered as a self-paced class. It was organized and well-presented.

Writing Foundations 1

Another wonderful class taught by Ms. Martha Jackson! This is our third year taking her Literature classes. This class really pushed my child out of their comfort zone. I love Shakespeare, but my child is adamantly opposed to reading any of his plays. The first couple of weeks were a struggle. However, Ms. Martha always incorporates amazing and relevant projects with the assigned reading. I found my kiddo working evenings and weekends on the project that went along with Julius Caesar. My child is proud of their accomplishments in the class and has shared their project with friends and family. Thank you for a great class!

Ms. Martha has been exactly what our son needed to take his writing to another level. She is one of the more positive and supportive teachers we've encountered, and yet all of her praise must be earned. Our son always knew that Martha's praise meant he had been truly successful; there is nothing hollow or perfunctory about it.

She requires a lot of her students, from shorter daily assignments to more detailed projects. Everything has a purpose. Early on, our son might have thought that the weekly five-minute writing assignments were just busy work. He quickly saw how much they pushed him to think creatively, and to get beyond writer's block. He was able to more naturally find a writing flow, thanks to these assignments. The longer essays and other projects required more planning and consistent work, as well as attention to detail. By the end of this school year, our son had transformed into the kind of student who could attack longer projects without feeling overwhelmed.

We could not be happier. We are so grateful to have found Ms. Martha!
